Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get an opener installed with my new garage door?
Absolutely! When choosing a garage door from our design center, ask about our opener options and we can help you choose a good opener for your new door.
Is my garage door supposed to be this noisy?
In most cases, no, garage doors should not be particularly noisy. While they do make some noise as they open or close, it should not include loud screeching or noises loud enough to wake the neighbors. Give us a call if you feel like your garage doors are too noisy and a technician can take a look.
How do I open my door if the power is out?
To open your garage door during a power outage:
- Make sure the garage door is fully closed if possible.
Do not pull the release cord if the door is stuck open or halfway open unless you are sure the door is properly balanced. - Pull the red emergency release cord.
This disconnects the garage door from the opener. - Lift the garage door by hand.
Use both hands and lift from the bottom handle or lower section. The door should feel manageable. If it feels extremely heavy, stop — you may have a broken spring. - Keep the door fully open before walking or driving under it.
Make sure it stays up on its own. If it starts to fall, do not use it. - When power comes back on, reconnect the opener.
Pull the red cord toward the opener or run the opener until the trolley reconnects, depending on your opener model.
Important safety note: If the door feels too heavy, crooked, stuck, or will not stay open, do not force it. That usually means there is a spring, cable, or balance problem, and the door can be dangerous to move by hand.
Why does my garage door keep going back up when I try to close it?
Your garage door may be reversing because the safety sensors near the bottom of the door are out of alignment or blocked. These sensors send an invisible beam across the opening. If the beam is interrupted, dirty, or misaligned, the opener thinks something is in the way and reverses the door to prevent injury or damage. Try checking for objects near the sensors, wiping the sensor lenses clean, and making sure both sensor lights are steady. If the door still reverses, the sensors may need adjustment or service.
Do I need to do anything to maintain my opener?
We suggest regularly lubricating the opener mechanisms, keeping all parts clean and free of debris, testing that the door still works as expected, and inspecting parts like bolts or chains regularly for damage or wear. Additionally, if you notice any damage you should repair it quickly. It may also be a good idea to schedule an inspection to find more complicated issues before they become noticeable.
How fast can you install a new garage door?
The complexity of the garage, the door, and the opener system can change installation times, but many past clients feel our team was quick and efficient in their own installations. Our schedule can fill up quickly depending on the season, so feel free to call and ask our team.
Can garage doors hurt pets or kids?
Because of how heavy garage doors can be, it is possible for garage doors to close and hurt children or pets. However, installing a door opener, using other safety features, and repairing wear or damage can reduce the risk of harm. Talk to us about your safety concerns and we can help you choose the best features for you.
Can I just lift my garage door if there is a broken spring?
You should not try to lift a garage door with a broken spring.
The spring does most of the heavy lifting for the door. When the spring breaks, the door can become extremely heavy and dangerous to lift. Even if the door looks normal, it may slam down, come off track, damage the opener, or cause serious injury.
If your car is trapped inside or the door will not open, call County Garage Door Co. and we’ll help get your door working safely again.
Can you install unusually sized garage doors?
Yes, our technicians are experienced in a wide range of garage door styles. We can take a look at the intended opening for your garage, help you choose the best fit, and install it.\
What is the cost range for a garage door?
A basic replacement will usually cost less than a custom, insulated, or carriage-style door. The cost of a new garage door can vary depending on the size of the door, material, insulation, window options, design style, hardware, and whether a new opener is also needed.
As a general range, many standard garage door replacements can fall somewhere around $1,000 to $2,500+, while larger, custom, or premium doors can cost more.
The best way to know your exact cost is to schedule an estimate. County Garage Door Co. can help you compare options and choose a door that fits your home, your budget, and the look you want.
Do you offer a warranty?
We offer a 1 year limited warranty on workmanship. County Garage Door Co. warrants that the installation performed by its employees shall be free from defects in workmanship, under normal use and service, for a period of one year from the date of installation.
